(F 288) What is the ruling on repeating ῾Umrah from At-Tan῾īm? And what is the ruling on shaving the hair in this case?

The default principle on repeating ῾Umrah during a single visit is that it is permissible, based on the ḥadīth of ῾Abdul Raḥmān ibn Abī Bakr (may Allāh be pleased with him): “The Prophet (peace be upon him) instructed him to accompany ῾Aā᾽ishah and perform ῾Umrah with her from At-Tan῾īm” after the Farewell Pilgrimage, when he allowed others to perform Tamattu῾ (combining Ḥajj and ῾Umrah) and she did not.

When repeating ῾Umrah, a person residing in the Ḥaram of Mecca needs to go outside the boundaries of the Ḥaram, whether it be from At-Tan῾īm, ῾Arafāt, or any other place, and make the intention for a new ῾Umrah. After completing the acts of ῾Umrah, they must shave or trim their hair for each ῾Umrah performed. Shaving the hair for the first ῾Umrah does not suffice for the second one.

There is no harm in performing multiple ῾Umrahs in a single day or on different days. The important aspects are assuming ῾Iḥrām from outside the Ḥaram boundaries, performing the essential rituals and obligations of ῾Umrah, including making the intention from outside the Ḥaram, performing Ṭawāf, Sa῾iy, and shaving or trimming the hair.
