The Seven Jurists lived in Madinah among the generation of the Followers and were selected by the scholars of jurisprudence. They are: Saˁīd ibn al-Musayyib, ˁUrwa ibn az-Zubaiyr, Al-Qāsim ibn Muḥammad ibn Abī Bakr aṣ-Ṣiddīq, ˁUbaydullāh ibn ˁUtbah ibn Masˁūd, Khārijah ibn Zayd ibn Thābit, and Sulaymān ibn Yasār. There is a difference of opinion regarding the seventh one, and it is said that he is Abū Salamah ibn ˁAbd ar-Raḥmān ibn ˁAwf, which is the most common opinion and is what Ibn aṣ-Ṣalah preferred. Others say that he is Sālim ibn ˁAbdullāh ibn ˁUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb, which is what Ibn al-Mubārak preferred, or that he is Abū Bakr ibn ˁAbd ar-Raḥmān ibn al-Ḥārith ibn Hishām al-Makhzūmiy.
