(F 310) What is the ruling on neglecting to pray for our brothers and sisters in Gaza or neglecting that altogether? Especially in congregational prayers during Tarāwīḥ and while supplicating during Qunūt. Is not it better and more appropriate for the Imam to do this openly and persistently?

A Muslim is commanded to support religion and truth and to help their fellow Muslim with everything they have, starting with supplication and beseeching Allāh and ending with sacrificing wealth and life. Allāh says: “O you who have believed, if you support Allāh, He will support you and plant firmly your feet” [Qur᾽ān 47:7]. Supporting Allāh means supporting His religion and His believing servants, as Allāh does not need support Himself.

Imam ᾽Aḥmad and Abū Dāwūd narrated from Jābir ibn ῾Abdullāh and Abū Ṭalḥah ibn Sahl al-᾽Anṣārī that they said: The Messenger of Allāh (peace be upon him) said: “No man abandons a Muslim in a situation where his sanctity is violated and his honor is diminished, except that Allāh will abandon him in a situation where he wants His help. And no man helps a Muslim in a situation where his honor is diminished and his sanctity is violated, except that Allāh will help him in a situation where he wants His help.”

The lowest level of support is to raise our hands to Allāh in supplication, whether we do this individually or collectively. The obligation and importance of this increase for Imams and preachers who lead gatherings, deliver sermons, and stand at the prayer niche, as people follow their lead.

Therefore, it is essential for them to openly supplicate for the victory of the people of Palestine. Only those who are weak or have a disease in their hearts would fail in this duty, and neither is fit to lead the Ummah.

O Allāh, grant the people of Palestine a swift and decisive victory.
